Mac running slow? Let's get it quick again.
A slow Mac is the thing I'm asked about most — and usually the quickest to put right, over the phone, wherever you are in the UK.
When a Mac drags, it's rarely one big thing. It's a handful of small ones stacking up: too much loading at login, a disk that's nearly full, an app misbehaving in the background, or a macOS that needs a tidy. I go through them with you on the call and we sort what's actually slowing yours down.
Most of the time we fix it there and then while you watch — no booking it in, no posting it off, no leaving it with anyone. And I'll tell you honestly if it's a case of the Mac simply being old, rather than selling you something that won't help.
What this usually looks like
- The spinning beachball every time you click.
- Apps hanging, freezing, or taking an age to open.
- The fans running hard even when you're barely doing anything.
- Everything fine first thing, then slower the longer it's on.
- Safari or Mail crawling, tabs reloading themselves.
- Startup taking minutes instead of seconds.
Common questions
- Can a slow Mac really be fixed over the phone?
- Yes, in most cases. With screen-sharing I can see exactly what's happening and work through it with you — there's no need to bring the Mac anywhere or be in the same place as me.
- Will I lose any files?
- No. Speeding a Mac up is about what's running and how it's set up, not about wiping anything. Your photos, documents and email stay exactly where they are.
- What if my Mac is just too old to fix?
- I'll tell you straight. If the honest answer is that the hardware has had its day, I'd rather say so than charge you for work that won't make a real difference.
- How much does it cost?
- You pay by card at the end, once it's done. If it turns out to be something I can't fix remotely, you'll know before any work begins.
